We have a dedicated Youth Club Provision
The Youth Club committee is there to influence change and create the best possible outcomes for the young people living in Stratton. Once a quarter we meet to discuss old changes and to implement new ones, meaning the wider community will always have a say too!
What to expect in Stratton?
Lots of exciting activities including; Music & Performing arts, Extreme & Club sports, Arts and Crafts, Circus skills, Gaming, Film nights and Informal guidance and chats.
The most important part of the youth club is giving young people a safe space to socialise with other young people and the ability to chat to with professional youth workers. Something to remember is that youth work is there for ALL young people and will always grow naturally based around the need. Youth Workers will be delivering in different areas around the parish meaning that all of Stratton will have a strong workforce ready to engage.
Here’s an insight into our Youth Group activities, groups and sessions which’re happening within Stratton!
The first poster displays what you can get involved in within our weekly Youth Club, each month. The last two highlight free groups which help to support those kids at need. We have a Safe Space support group (7-14 only), every Tuesday from 6-7pm, inside Beechcroft Library. This is for bereaved children and children in care, who are looking for a welcoming environment in a supportive and relaxed location. The other group is our Youth Café (14-17 only), every Friday from 3:30-5pm, inside Brew Book. The first 10 to attend each week will get a free drink or snack!
“Thank you so much, my child made new friends and is much happier”.
“You’ve made him feel so welcome. My child feels so accepted and able to be himself. I can’t thank you enough”.
“Her confidence has grown so much, thank you!”.
“There’s no other group like this, it’s perfect”.
“We appreciate you so much”.
“Thank you for all the opportunities”
“All the times we have been doing activities, I’ve been happy”.

What is Street-Based Youth Work?
Street-based youth work involves engaging with young people in public spaces, such as streets, parks, and shopping areas, rather than in traditional settings like schools or community centres!
This proactive approach allows youth workers to reach out to young people who may not seek help on their own, including those who are hard to reach or at risk.
The importance of street-based youth work lies in its accessibility and ability to build trust with young people in their own environments. It provides opportunities for early intervention, support, and guidance, addressing issues such as substance abuse, mental health, and social issues.
By meeting young people where they are, street-based youth workers can create positive relationships and offer crucial resources and mentorship; ultimately contributing to healthier communities and better futures for these young individuals.
SMASH have supported our youth provision over the past year attending trips and youth club sessions in Stratton. Recently, SMASH have been conducting street-based sessions around Meadowcroft during our younger youth club sessions, to engage with older young people.
We have invested in two electric bikes to allow our youth workers to reach broader areas of Stratton like Coleview. Look out for us during weekday evenings and say hello. We will also be out during the afternoons in the summer holidays.💚
Want To Get involved?
SSMPC are looking for volunteers to join our youth club! This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and work within a small team delivering open access youth work across Stratton.
We will also offer a free DBS check as well as youth work related training in various fields.
