This September Stratton St Margaret Parish Council took over the running of Beechcroft Library in Upper Stratton.
This was following a successful bid to Swindon Borough Council who is fully supporting the Parish Council and who allocated them the crucial funds required to support the continuation of the library in Upper Stratton.
The Parish Council’s plan is to make the Beechcroft Library a ‘Community Hub’ for local residents, local business owners and community groups. It will be a place to meet, a place to unwind or somewhere for residents to reach out to the community. The Parish Council has just 12 months to turn this important community asset into a success. The library already has a huge community following and a team of eager volunteers, so the foundations are set.
Tracy Predeth, Clerk to the Council said “Swindon Borough Council have awarded us this opportunity to run the library on an annual service level agreement, we have a year to prove this can work, but of course we need to make it a place people want to go. We wish to purchase new books, resources and make it a fresh, comfortable place that everyone wants to be.”
The Parish Council is now inviting local residents, charities, groups and businesses to support this community venture by launching a Crowdfunding project. Their ‘Bringing a Library & Hub back to the Community’ funding page is active until 10am on 7 November 2017. With just 47 days left the Parish Council is grateful for any donations made before this deadline. Visit https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/bringing-a-library-hub-back-to-the-community. All pledges will help bring Beechcroft Library, at the heart of Upper Stratton, back to life, with new books and resources.
